Regular visitors to Ireland will certainly be familiar with Dublin on the east coast but many will also be drawn to the Midwest region of the country where, dominated by the Shannon River, the cities of Galway, Limerick and Limerick offer city life and culture set against some stunning natural landscapes. Leisure activities in the area are endless, with horseracing being as popular here as in anywhere else in Ireland.

Of all the racecourses, Limerick has a unique appeal in that it is a brand new purpose built facility featuring all the hospitality, race day activities and entertainment which attracts new generations of racegoers and some great Limerick racing besides to attract any lover of the sport.
Horseracing is not new of course to County Limerick and there has been well attended courses and fixtures in the area since 1790. Indeed, Limerick Racecourse, having opened in 2001, is the seventh such reincarnation and is located on a stud farm in Patrickswell, 8km from Limerick City. 250 acres of the farm are given over to the racing, which like elsewhere in Ireland is comprised of both Flat and National Hunt events. There is racing held from October to July, 19 fixtures in total and so many chances to incorporate Limerick racing into any holiday schedule.

The main event at Limerick is the Christmas Festival which is held over four days from Boxing Day and draws crowds eager to experience some first class racing in an atmosphere which is festive and celebratory.

St. Patrick’s Weekend in March is another event in which the social aspects are as important as the races. A fixture in which the racing definitely takes centre stage is the Munster National, held in October each year. At other times the emphasis is on family fun and special events such as Riverfest and Student Race Day. Twilight racing is a feature too, especially for the Flat racing events.
General admission for adults into the course starts from €15 rising to €25 depending on the fixture. Concessions are available for students and senior citizens and children under the age of 16 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Special offers are also available for two day admission and discounts for group bookings. In addition to standard admission options there are many ways in which to combine Limerick racing with first class hospitality as part of a race day package.

The flagship dining facility at Limerick racing is the Panoramic Restaurant which is located in the Greenmount Suite. As the name of the restaurant suggests, the views are spectacular; over the home straight, finishing line and the incredible landscape beyond. Race day restaurant packages start from €50 per person and can be booked for as small a group as two people up to hiring the full Greenmount Suite for a corporate event.
The restaurant package includes admission, racecard, full meal in stylish surrounds at a table booked for the day, cash bar, and tote betting facilities. A resident tipster is on hand to guide diners through the best bets. The same package is also available for the Premier Suite, located on the third floor and with a capacity for up to 100 persons.
